Stretching out and having fun on the Newport 27

Saturday ASA group lessons have resumed
Before the storm arrived on Saturday we squeezed in our first ASA 101 group lesson on the Newport 27. Stronger than average wind speeds provided our students with somewhat challenging conditions as we reefed both sails.
As they always say, calm seas never made a good sailor. We adapted and had a great lesson.
At South Bay Sailing, we always move at the pace of each student. All our lessons are taught using the American Sailing Association curriculum beginning with its 101 course.

Sunset Wednesdays
Join us each Wednesday for a 2-hour sunset sail. These are group sails open to individuals with a maximum of 5 passengers. As the days get shorter, we will adjust the starting time. Right now we are departing at 4:45 pm. We also have a 2-hour group sail that departs Sunday at 11 am.

Stretching out
The Newport 27 affords passengers the chance to stretch out among the boat with everyone finding a comfortable spot. There are padded seats and a bathroom. The cabin has more than 6 feet of head space. Snacks you can assemble on a pull-out table, and there’s plenty of room for a cooler.

Longer charters
For those who enjoy longer charters, our Newport 27 offers the perfect chance for a 3 hour or 4 hour sail. With a working head and a comfortable cabin, there are plenty of ways to escape the weather. A bimini top provides shade in the cockpit when needed. On these charters we can see the Point Vicente lighthouse.

Meet the Captain
Remaining at the helm for all our charters and lessons is Captain Dave, who is USCG Certified and an accomplished sailor with 15 years of instructing experience at South Bay Sailing.
